Folding Mountain is located just outside the east gate of Jasper National Park on the Yellowhead Highway.
Once again, blue skies and sun ushered me up the slopes. Upon reaching a bouldery outcrop, I had a snack with a fine view west toward Roche a Perdrix - a mountain I climbed last summer.
The ridge transitioned to black shale near the top, and soon thereafter I was enjoying a summit view of foothills to the east and mountains to the west.
If you summit and take a photo, Folding Mountain Brewery below rewards you with a free pint - so of course I went there for supper. The brewery itself is very nice from an architectural perspective, and the beer is good to. The hiker's bowl on the menu was tasty, but didn't leave me satisfied for long, and I curated a charcuterie board for second supper back at camp.
At this point in my trip, I wanted to check in with Megan, but there were no payphones left in Jasper. To my surprise, the payphone at the campground worked! This old beast had weathered many a decade outside and was being grown in by shrubbery, but the touch-tone buttons worked like new - that's some quality right there.
