I went for a short solo outing to Vents Ridge today. The weather was warm and sunny as I found my way down the Powderface Creek Trail. Compared to the overcrowded Prairie Mountain Trail adjacent, I found complete solitude on Vents Ridge.
As I ascended to the ridge, I noticed multiple sites with rock climbing hardware attached. Some of the lines looked to be quite difficult and overhanging. Continuing on, the trail nestled right under the vertical walls of the ridge...it was a very interesting place.
Once on top of the ridge, I had a quick bite to eat and continued down the north side, in order to loop back to my vehicle. More anchors and hardware peppered the rock walls throughout.
On my return hike, I spotted two mountain goats! I had never seen them this far east...I was only 70 km or so from Calgary.
