David, Megan and Myself certainly 'made 150 count' on this, Canada's 150th birthday. We ate freshly cooked bacon strips on the way to the trailhead. Once there, I changed into a very special Canada 150 hiking outfit. We drank Molson Canadians on the summit of Ha Ling peak while playing "Oh Canada" from our i-pod docker. We shared this fun moment with quite a few others who also summited this very popular small peak near Canmore. Once back at the car, we had a caesar (invented in Calgary nonetheless) and continued our adventurous day.
Back in Calgary, our neighbor Konrad made homemade poutine with hand cut potatoes, pulled pork shoulder, cheese curds and pan-scraping gravy. I had two large bowls and didn't need to eat for the rest of the day. A dozen or so of us then went downtown to a restaurant in Kensington until the sun was setting. We then went to a high grassy bluff and watched Canada's longest fireworks show that day (30 mins). Intense cloud lightning in the background was an interesting contrast to the man-made light show overhead.
