A solo outing today had me hiking up a familiar trail. Upon reaching Burstall Pass, however, I was on new terrain on a ridge leading to Burstall Pass Peak.
Once gaining elevation, I was in the clouds and mist for most of the day, and following the narrowing ridge up through the viewlessness was like a game of cat-and-mouse. I would get to a high point marked with a cairn that looked like the summit, explore a bit beyond, just to faintly see that the ridge ascends higher. At the third high point, I was finally at the summit.
When you're alone and in this type of fog, it funny how the rest of your senses tune in and routefinding becomes even more important.
