I did a solo hike and bike today up Mt. Strachan in Kananaskis.
There was a ford of the Highwood River involved too, so this outing had a feel of real adventure with all the different gear and footwear required.
Once across the river, I rode my bike for some time to a point beyond the Don Getty provincial park boundary line and stashed it in the woods.
The headwall was impressive and the section where 3 chains are bolted to the cliff to aid ascent was really cool!
Above the chains , the beautiful Carnarvon Lake is revealed. I had a long break and a nice lunch on a verdant plateau overlooking the lake.
Afterward, I continued to the top of Mt. Strachan and was rewarded with more fine scenery.
Back below the chains, the bike ride out was screamin' quick and this is where I was rewarded for the slow ride in.
Upon reaching the highway, I looked back at the distant Mt. Strachan that I had been up just a few hours before, and the smoke from the B.C. wildfires had really come in and was quite thick now...fine time to hop in my truck and drive home.
