Kathi, David and I went for a hike along the D'Iberville Trail to Vitters Cove today.
First, we passed by the Bloody Point Light Station which apparently receives a laser signal from a neighboring station. Depending on how strong (or weak) that signal is, it triggers the fog horn to activate.
From Bloody Point, we ascended the headlands where scrub and shrubbery abound. I can`t remember ever seeing the ocean this calm in Newfoundland before - what a treat!
After meandering through open headland and stunted forest, the trail led us to a most intriguing tidal pool in Vitters Cove. In the shallow water, we spotted sea urchins, whelks (sea snails), mussels and starfish.
A short while later the trail passed by some gravestones from 206 years ago! The area here is as rich in cultural history as it is natural history.
