Megan and I headed south to Beauvais Lake Provincial Park to do a little hiking. The prairies are full of TINY cows (I guess they're called calves) at this time of year, making the drive to the trailhead even more enticing.
Our goal was to hike a loop involving three highpoints - Piney Point, Mt. Albert and Mt. Baldy - the Beauvais Triple Crown.
We started out in delicious sunshine, but as any mountain forecaster can tell you, that can change on a dime.
Piney Point offered a nice vantage of our route ahead, and the small valley and pond that followed were peaceful and scenic.
Our ascent of Mt. Albert was met with strong winds, so we hid behind a bit of Krummholz for a quick lunch on the summit ridge.
After descending Mt. Albert, the snow came in earnest. We were both geared up and ready for it, so neither of us really minded - in fact it gave an adventurous feel to this quiet Monday hike.
Soon after summiting Mt. Baldy, the weather cleared and we were back in sunshine. After spending some time checking out the Smith Homestead, we ambled our way back to the trailhead.
