After leaving Calgary at 5:00 am, I arrived to Jasper at 10:00 am for the first day of hiking and scrambling on my week long visit to Jasper. Over the next six days I would hike 80 km, ascend 5100 meters of elevation, and bathe in the Maligne, Athabasca and Rocky Rivers.
The starting day saw me up a 'Kane summit' - Cinquefoil Mountain. I saw only two other parties on the peak today, and neither summited - they were just out for a hike to explore the ridge.
Sunny skies were enjoyed at the top, but distant clouds were building so I headed down - a good thing too - the last part of the descent was under ever-darkening skies with thunder getting louder and louder. Five minutes from the trailhead, the rain started - good timing to finish up the outing on Day #1!
