Hawk Ridge is a long north-south running ridge that parallels Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park. It sports a South, Center and North Peak - today we would do the Center Peak.
We started out by hiking the trail to Honeymoon Pass. I've done this trail years ago, and the recent chainsaw work made it easier to reach the pass than in 2015. Then, at an avalanche slope, all Parks Canada work seems to have come to a halt. I can't blame them, it would take weeks of cutting to clear a path through the jumble of logs left by winter avalanches. This part was short, but savage to cross.
At Honeymoon Pass, we had first lunch and then headed up steep scree slopes toward Hawk Ridge. Much scenic hiking followed and a while later, we were at the top and had another break.
The return was scenic but uneventful and fortunately, we were able to skirt the worst of the log jam on the way down.
