Emerald Peak makes for a very interesting scramble. David and I started out by hiking the steep trail to Hamilton Lake. From there, we ascended the south ridge. We traversed below the false summit to a point where the ridge seems to come to an end in terms of scrambling.
However, we knew of a route described online where a hidden chasm can be found and followed for a short distance. In the chasm, there is a cave at the north end. At the back of the cave, there is a small hole that an individual can squeeze through, albeit awkwardly. At the top of the squeeze, you emerge on the ridgecrest in grand surroundings with quite a drop on either side! A few short moves of scrambling followed by a jump over a deep crack, and you are at the top. I highly recommend this outing due to these unusual attributes.
