Out of all my plans for the week, I was the most stoked for Indian Ridge. I checked the weather upon arrival at the VIC and Monday seemed to be the best choice. I was not disappointed.
The day began with a tram ride to the upper station, where a hike takes you to Whistlers Summit. This is the turnaround point for the mobs of tourists, and a long, undulating hike along four distinct highpoints arcs around a breathtaking ridge.
I chatted with a group of Rocky Mountain Ramblers from Calgary, before hiking ahead and catching up with a guy named Lucas. He was a teacher and group home employee from Grand Prairie and had gotten into scrambling about two years ago. He and I enjoyed each others company and paired up for the rest of the hike.
After the high point, we continued on to the far end of the ridge, which I initially thought was the summit. When shooting the video in frame 19, I though I was conceding the summit after scrambling down and checking out an alternative route that turned out to be no better than the exposed crack. Then Lucas and I looked back to realize we were some 45 m lower than the high point we crossed over an hour ago - sweet!
The return trip along the ridge was pure bliss - blue skies and just a little breeze.
Back at the tram, Lucas and I bid each other farewell. It was time to get back to camp for supper. Later that evening just as it was getting dark, a lengthy dry lightning storm rolled to the south of the campsite and gave everyone a good show.
