After petting Ivan for a bit and then tucking him back in, I left for Grouse Ridge under a beautiful sunrise.
The hike to Grouse Ridge provided a bit of bushwacking and routefinding, because I left the trail too early, following bits of erroneous marking tape that became more and more widespead and excessive as I went along. Soon, I abandoned the tape and followed my nose up to the correct trail.
From there, a pleasant little track led me a couple of kilometers to the summit of Grouse Ridge, where I enjoyed lunch in the sun.
On return, I came across even more marking tape. It was not used in any productive way, like a hiker, Conservation Officer or survey crew might tie it. So random, copious and ugly was its presence that I dropped my pack, took out my pocket knife and made it my mission to clean up this mess. Back and forth through stands of trees I went, collecting handfulls and handfulls of marking tape. It was as if someone took a bus of school kids in here, handed them each a roll of tape, and said "go nuts!". Anyway, I cleared most of it up.
An hour later, as if by some good karma, the hikers in the only other car at the trailhead offered me some Halloween chocolate - yum!
