This seldom-visited mountain takes it's name from a group of Hungarian mercenaries that fought against Turkish rule. There have only been a handful of parties to visit the summit, and the current register dates back to 1977!
Joining me on this monster outing was David, of course. We hiked over Honeymoon Pass, down to the solitudinous Verdant Creek Basin, bushwacked for a couple of hours up through forest and cobwebs, before being rewarded with a scenic hanging valley.
From there, we ascended easy scree, then picky boulders before finally summiting. The views were no joke.
We took and hour at the top, but then had to continue as we still had a lot of terrain to cover. All in all, this was a 25 km day with 1900 m of elevation gain that took us 13.25 hours to hike. Including the drive, we left Calgary at 5:00 am and got back at 11:00 pm - whew!
