I hadn't been down to Waterton National Park yet this year, and September 3 was the time to go. There has been much rebuilding in the western portion of the park since the Kenow Fire of 2017. New picnic areas, washroom facilities and a swanky new visitor's center are all very noticable.
The landscape too, of course, has changed and the hike was a lot more open and sunny than the last time I was here.
Once above treeline, David and I scrambled up the ridge to the summit of Mt. Alderson. It was relatively straightforward, with two downclimbs providing variation to the ascent.
Haze was apparent from forest fires in the United States, but nothing too bad.
The descent was brain-bakingly hot, but with much hydration, we made it down without issue.
