I have to admit - I almost quit and went home at the 2 km mark of this 45 km loop, when buckets of rain and hail made me wait under a tree for 15 minutes. I thought of what else I could do with my day. Then two other riders showed up and wondered what to do as well. I figured I was going to be soaked and muddy on the ride back anyway, so I decided to give it a go. I rode hard and fast up the trail, which was basically a flowing stream at this point. The good thing about mountain biking is that even if you are wet and muddy, you're not cold because of the intense effort required. It reminded me of my racing days, and I relished the experience.
Within an hour, the weather started to clear up and I was treated to a fine view of Tombstone Pass.
I rode on, enjoying the journey.
Half an hour from finishing the loop, the skies opened up again. My riding glasses were so spattered with muddy water, I could harly see. It didn't matter though, because the trail was smooth and non-technical. I powered on and finished the loop.
My clothes were so muddy and wet, I had to drive home in my underwear!
