Wow! Bluerock Mountain sure makes for a long day.
Clayton and I ascended a long approach through forest, before reaching treeline at a log bench where we stashed gatorade and water for the return (it was 33 degrees Celsius).
We then donned our helmets and climbed through the crux of the day, a steep gully with an energetic heave up an overhanging ledge required at one point.
After the crux, there was a long ridge walk to the top, complete with an interesting cave.
The summit was quite satisfying, particularly since Clayton had wanted to do this peak for a few years now. We soaked in the sun, then started our long, circuitous trip down. We wandered through a river canyon, along another ridge and through several stands of cobwebby trees.
By the time we finally dragged ourselves back to the car, we had hiked for 13 hours and I had drank 9 liters of water...whew!
P.S. about half-way through the photos, there is a fingerprint smudge appearing as a blurry spot on the remaining frames...I didn't catch that until I got home.
