With the week coming to a close, Jasper had spent significant time at camp and in a hot vehicle while he waited for me to hike. Despite some fine sightseeing around town two days prior, he wanted to accompany me on a hike to a mountain summit. The East Summit of Edith Cavell would be his day.
Starting at the Cavell Meadows Trail, one is quickly rewarded with amazing views of Mt. Edith Cavell and the Angel Glacier - so named because of its resemblance to an angel with outstretched wings.
Beyond, a good trail leads to a high meadow. The remainder is an easy scramble to the summit with a breathtaking view waiting on top. Jasper was really blown away by the scenery. This is a popular outing, and many hikers noticed Jasper on my pack. By days end, he was virtually a celebrity with several folks asking to take his picture or calling out his name if they had seen us previously. I figure he was probably posted on social media by the time we got back to camp. Way to go Jasper - congrats on your first summit!
There was no feasible bird-bath spot here, so I borrowed the shower facilities at Whistlers Campground. Wow! These brand new facilities are quite swanky - by far the best public showers I have encountered.
