We took the opportunity of good weather today and headed for one of my favorite snowshoe areas - Hogarth Lakes. We extended the standard marked route with a tour to the north toward Tent Ridge. Random touring is the best because it allows one to visit areas that one would never think to bushwack/bogwack to in the summer.
We crossed a couple of avalanche slopes in the morning (rabbit tracks photo) then dropped down to Burstall Creek as it flows north to meet Commonwealth Creek, then looped back via Mud Lake.
On our return, I noticed an interesting "hawk snow angel" where a bird had swooped down presumably to make a kill. Rodent tracks with a little rodent feces completed the scene of demise.
On a final note, the solar rays felt strong and warm after 10:00 a.m. necessating sunscreen...an encouraging sign that summer is slowly but surely on its way to the mountains.
