Mt. Bell is a great scramble. Clayton and I accessed the ridge the long way via the Taylor Lake approach. The larches were in their prime. The ascent gully was north-facing, so this route is one that is best left for late summer or fall. We didn't have to cross any snow in the gully.
Shortly before the summit, there is a very curious large rock that is seemingly precariously perched directly across the narrow ridge. It's huge...so where did it come from?
The summit offered views of inumerable named peaks. No wind and about 20 Celcius at the top.
We started shortly after daylight on this one, and spent more than an hour at the top. We finished the last 15 minutes in the dark, but this we enjoyed (Clayton thus left the headlamp in his pack). Our eyes adjusted and the trail was wide, but this forest was pitch black. A great finish to a memorable mountain, where the approach was as enjoyable as the peak itself.
