I headed out today for a solo snowshoe to the banks of the Kicking Horse River just west of Field.
The Kicking Horse is classified as an anastomosing river, which means that it is a network of irregularly branching and reconnecting streams of varying width, depth and flow rates. It provided interesting terrain in which to explore, and the weather co-operated with frequent sunshine poking through the clouds.
The snow conditions however, were mediocre with collapsing structure and sections of shrubby bushwacking with muddy bog or bare ground. I took off my snowshoes for a section along the river that had completely melted of all snow.
