It's been a snowier than normal winter for Calgary. I decided to make the most of the latest March dump by going to Stanley Glacier for a powdery snowshoe. The weather was good, the avalanche rating low, and the snow fresh - in other words, too good to pass up.
Stanley Glacier is one of my favorite snowshoe outings because the views are constant, right from the get-go. The portion of the highway that accesses the trailhead is particularly high in elevation, so there is no long ascent through viewless forest - you are already almost in the sub-alpine when you park.
I came across one other solo snowshoer and two ice climbers - a very quiet day (Monday helps) in this very popular spot.
