Great weather for a day out in the mountains. Fresh powder, nobody around (Tuesday), and random wandering through deep snow forests made for a fun adventure.
After 15 minutes of following the packed-down trail system near Mt. Shark, I decided to branch off and wander down through the forest toward Spray Lake. I came across a neat little shack in the snow and wanted to continue along the lakeshore, so I decided to do a counter-clockwise loop around Isolated Ridge, returning to my starting point via Watridge Lake. The trail-less terrain on the west side of Isolated Ridge felt isolated indeed. No signs of any human or animal activity along this section, except for some rabbit and moose tracks from earlier in the morning. The return along Watridge Creek did have a set of three wolf tracks paralleling each other. This would be a great area to come back winter camping next year...deep snow, some deadfall for a fire and running water...what else could you ask for?
