Megan had asked me a while ago to take her on a fun, hands-on scramble that didn't have a crazy elevation gain or distance from the highway - Mt. Tyrwhitt was a perfect choice.
We hiked up a fine trail towards Pocaterra Ridge before branching off to Grizzly Col. From there, we began the scrambling portion. This section had a sustained slope of steep, loose rock requiring patience and determination.
Near the top, there is a dramatic rock arch that frames a hole the shape of Africa.
Soon thereafter, we approached the summit as rain showers and fog moved in. We summited in thick fog with no view.
Then, as quickly as it came in, the weather changed and the fog blew away to reveal our stunning position among a sea of peaks all around - a fine reward for Megan's first "Kane moderate" scramble - well done Megan!
