This was a cool hike. David and I started at the Leitch Colliers - a restored coal mining operation that is now a Provincial Historic Site.
From there, we continued through farmland and meadows, crossing several barbed wire fences before gaining the south slopes of Robertson Peak. A fine view opened up suddenly at the top, and we took lots of pictures.
We continued along the ridge toward Tallon Peak and found a spot out of the windy for lunchsies and napsies.
On the ridge near Tallon Peak, I received quite the backhand slap from a stout, stubby pine branch that cut my face and gave me a fat lip - ouch!
Further down, we found some interesting coal seams that gave the landscape a lunar look. This then led to more sparsely treed meadows on decent which made for very enjoyable hiking.
Back down at highway level, we crossed a huge cow pasture and noticed a cave off to the side. There was soft mud underfoot in this deep cave, giving it a creepy feeling to explore. We found several small bones at the back and also some interesting moths on the cave walls. The whole thing reminded me of "the Great Owl's cave" in the Secret of NIMH.
This hike was a scenic loop with something new to discover around every corner.
