Clayton, Eric, Michael and I left for a long day down to Waterton. I've never driven down there for a single dayhike, but it was well worth the trip.
We hiked to Lineham Ridge via the Rowe Lakes trail, then to Mt. Hawkins. Hail briefly assaulted us here, pecking rather painfully at our faces with the notorious Waterton winds propelling it horizontally - an unwanted gift from the Americans across the International border just 6 km away.
We found a spot out of the wind for lunch near the summit of Mt. Hawkins, then it was time to return along the ridge the way we came, and head up Mt. Lineham. Four Lineham Lakes vie for attention along this very scenic ridgewalk.
On the return to the trailhead, I hiked up to the Rowe Lakes for a quick look. In total, the day entitled 31 km of hiking with a total elevation gain of 2500 metres - whew!
We went to the townsite for a pizza and saw a grizzly bear snacking on someones lawn - better than coming across it on the trail I guess!
