The three of us headed out to South Baldy Peak in Kananaskis Country today.
We started under quite dark conditions at 6:35 am...the days are certainly becoming noticeably shorter. We hustled up the trail to Baldy Pass at a good pace, expecting afternoon rain and thundershowers.
The ridge that followed was great fun. It was a mix of hiking and easy scrambling, with fantastic views all around. One of those views was to the north, where thunderstorms were already active just 20 km away. We knew that we would have to be swift along the ridge and keep the summit stay short.
Grey clouds approached and ominous weather made for some dramatic summit shots. We wisely chose to move down before taking a lunch break. Even so, we got poured on and hid underneath a thicket while we ate lunch in the rain.
The weather improved slightly on the way down, and an uneventful hike led us back to the truck.
