The Mt. Aberdeen route starts along a great trail for the first few kilometers, then heads up a decommissioned section that is getting overgrown, but not too badly. Then, at a river crossing, the bushwacking section starts. This is the type of schwackery that will tear your clothing - gnarled fir and spruce hardly taller than a man, but a lot stronger!
After breaking out of the bush, we started up a very fun and scenic gully, complete with waterfall.
Higher up, the weather deteriorated (the mountain forecast called for a blip of bad weather around noon). We continued up until arriving at the summit ridge. The terrain here was not too steep or scary, but incredibly loose, making it serious enough to pay attention. Then I noticed my metal ice axe humming over my shoulder - static electricity was abound! A very short summit stay and video followed, before we hastily beat a retreat off of the peak.
Farther down, the weather improved and we enjoyed the return trip (except the attack of the gnarly fir).
