Clayton and I went seeking yellow larches on this super-saturday. The sun wasn't out and the larches are not quite in their fall prime yet, but the outing was enjoyable nonetheless.
There was more snow than I was expecting on the ridge, making it adventurous indeed.
The steep descent through the forest was savage - slippery snow on top of shrubbery. Clayton managed to substitute a tree for a trapeze and ended up ankles over head in a slip that no hiker would wish to repeat. Being tough as nails, he shrugged it off.
The 5 km walk back to the trailhead along the highway was less than inspiring, but when you are out in search of adventure in such great surroundings, you have to take the lows with the highs. Still a wonderful day...I smelled like a balsam fir by the time we were done.
