Since the deep-freeze has ended (and Hell is no longer frozen over), I figured it was a good time to return to Hell's Ridge. A couple of months ago, I hiked Hell's Ridge North, and today I would do Hell's Ridge South.
There was a handy boot-beaten track heading up through the steep forest. Someone had also flagged the route very well with orange tape.
Once on the ridge, however, all signs of human traffic ended. Here, I postholed along the ridge for a couple of kilometres. Travel was challenging, but at least the deep snow hid the deadfall that would likely have been just as much of a hassle.
At he summit, a decent view to the south opened up, and made a nice area for lunch before returning the same way.
