There is a ridge running perpendicular to Baril Creek and Etherington Creek, sometimes called "Three Cairns", for the three piles of rock that are built at the summit.
Clayton and I hiked this ridge for the last Super-Saturday of the season...42 of them in total this year!
We started out at first light, and by the time we were ascending the lower slopes a couple of kilometres from the trailhead, we were bathed in warm, low angled rays from the sun. The light that resulted was a beautiful rich color illuminating the lichen-covered rock.
As we climbed higher, we found some delightful scrambling up grippy rock ledges and chimneys.
At the top, two of the three cairns were toppled over or hit by lightning, so we rebuilt them. We ate lunch in surprisingly warm temperatures, and scoped out a meadow to the west for a future winter camp before returning the same way back.
