I attempted Oyster Peak via the southeast ridge from Oyster Lake. This, unfortunately, was an erroneous route shown on the Gem-Trek map. Upon reaching the high col above the lake, there were steep, crumbling cliff bands to work through. After successfully surmounting one of them, they only got more exposed and dangerous from there. I decided to turn back and head back to camp, because I still had to pack up and move to Hidden Lake campground that night. Nonetheless, the views were fantastic and the cirque around Oyster Lake was very tranquil. I would not have seen that terrain had I gone the standard published route, which I'll save for the next time I attempt Oyster Peak. A brush fire in the distance that evening provided some entertainment for the campsite...it was extinguished within a few hours.
