Day three found me doing a circumnavigation of Fossil Mountain from Baker Lake. First through Cotton Grass Pass, then Jones Pass to Skoki Lodge and up Skoki Mountain, then on to Zigadenus and Myosotis Lakes for some fantastic exploration there before returning via Packer's Pass to Baker Lake Campground.
The ascent of Skoki was scenic indeed, but the highlight of my day was exploring the terrain between the Myosotis waterfall up to Zigadenus Lake. Near the waterfall it seems as if the trail ends, but if you pay attention, there is a path of rough stone steps that lead to a flake of rock attached to the cliff. Behind this flake was a crack that you could squiggle up and soon go under a lodged boulder (cool!), before suddenly emerging on the turquoise waters of Myosotis Lake. Then you tiptoe across some lakeside flagstones, and arrive at a headwall. This area provided countless routes up, but I chose to ascend shrubby blocks adjacent a small canyon carved by Zigadenus waterfall. Skip across the outlet stream and you find yourself on a narrow finger of land with Zigadenus and Myosotis Lakes at each side of you. You have now found heaven.
