On day 5, I went on a short hike to the end of Lake Magog before catching my 11:30 flight out. Yep - my flight. I decided to splurge on a helicopter ride out. Not only did it save me the same 28 km hike as I did on day 1, but I got the chance to ride in a helicopter! There are tours available from Canmore for several hundred dollars, but this ride was somewhat cheaper - 160 dollars for a nine minute ride. The flight path follows the access trail. An eight and a half hour hike equals a nine minute flight - that's humbling. Plus, this gave me a bonus day to do another hike in Kananaskis before driving home. I chose Running Rain Lake. After dropping me off at the helipad, I had a short 2 km walk back to my vehicle.
Running Rain Lake is named after an Indigenous person who historically lived in the area.
A winding forested trail eventually drops you off at a scenic lake tucked between limestone cliffs. Fish were jumping and it seems there would be good angling here.
After a bite to eat on the lakeshore, I climbed higher up to a perched cirque above for a more scenic view.
