Mt. Lougheed is a stately peak visible from the Trans Canada Highway east of Canmore. It sports four summits and we were headed for the highest one, Lougheed II, today.
A nice little trail led us along Spencer Creek until we reached a high meadow. Here, we beared left and hiked up a huge scree cone leading to the base cliffs of Lougheed.
Some routefinding and easy scrambling followed, and I really enjoyed this section of the mountain.
Next, we hiked up a steep grunt to the summit ridge, where a dramatic view opened up. A scenic high elevation walk took us to the top, where a nice lunch was had.
After some pictures we picked our way down the mountain and when we arrived back at the meadow, we took another break and short nap before the final plod back to the trailhead.
