Clayton and I rode our bikes (after I tried unsuccessfully to sweet-talk our way onto the back of a ski hill utility truck) up the steep and dusty dirt road to Skoki on our way to Unity Peak today.
After ditching our bikes in the bush, we hiked into Wolverine Valley - a peaceful and scenic area that sees much less traffic than the rest of Skoki.
We ascended the rocky slopes of Unity, and clambered over blocky terrain just before the summit. The summit itself is an awkwardly downsloping boulder that neither of us felt comfortable standing atop, but sometimes you just have to be happy touching the summit with your hand!
After leaving the chilly breeze at the mountaintop, we descended back to the valley, where we took an extended break and I finished working on a waterwheel that I had started a week earlier on a trip with David.
The conditions were ideal here - no bugs, no smoke, temps in the teens and sunny skies. Top it off with a waterwheel and what more could you want?
