Mystic Pass involves a long approach up Johnston Creek valley, passing the Inkpots along the way. Immediately after passing the tourist attraction Inkpots (5.5km in), the trail becomes narrower and more rugged. Several creeks are crossed on lovely new bridges (following the floods of 2013, I presume). Much of the way is forested, but occasional views are granted - giving a sense of anticipation for the pass.
Upon reaching our destination (14.5 km in), we relaxed and had lunch in the lee of a tree to get out of the wind. We explored Mystic Pass in a circular loop - it is quite wide and roomy, with many small outcrops to peruse.
The return trip was lenghty but quite enjoyable. The sun came out in earnest, we developed a rhythym in our stride, and the valley scenery didn't dissapoint the second time, either.
