This was day one of a six day solo trip into a backcountry area known as Skoki. After an early start from Calgary, I arrived at the parking area and started the 4km trudge up the gated Temple Fire Road with my heavy backpack laden with food for six days. Then I heard the dull roar of a vehicle coming up the steep gravel road. This miracle pickup truck gave me a lift to the start of the trail proper...woohoo!
Then, after 9km of beautiful hiking, I set up camp at Baker Lake. Next was the ascent of Fossil Mountain with a more manageable daypack. Wonderful blue skies kicked off my "Skoki Spectacular", in an unprecedented (for me) stretch of fine weather and multiple summits.
