Mt. Jimmy Simpson has been on my radar for a while.
It offers easy scrambling on scenic ledges which overlook alpine meadows below. There is some routefinding and some scree ascent, all while the vista opens up more and more. On the summit ridge, each step seems to grant a greater vantage of the sublime surroundings of Bow Lake.
Although I started out under a beautiful blue sky, I was concerned about mid-day thunderstorms cramping my style, so I hustled up to the top in just under three hours.
It was calm at the summit, so I took an hour for lunch. Nobody was coming up behind me, so I just took in the view with my thoughts for company.
Thunder finally came on the descent, but I was back on the trail before it rained (and hailed), so it didn't really affect my scramble. With this fine summit under my belt, not much could spoil my mood, and I enjoyed a scenic drive home through sun, rain and rainbows along the Bow Valley
Parkway.
